About

My name is Val.  I live in Umhlanga, South Africa.  Umhlanga is a coastal town that is very popular with tourists.  It is on the warm Indian Ocean and has a lovely promenade that stretches along the beachfront.

When we moved to Umhlanga 27 years ago, it was a small seaside resort.  Today it has grown and has lots of hotels and beachfront apartment blocks.  The best known hotels are the Beverley Hills and Oyster Box.  The prince and princess of Monaco spent part of their honeymoon at the Oyster Box.

Please join me for a cup of coffee and enjoy the chit chat about our travels, lives and hobbies.

  1. Hello, Val –

I was quite interested in your travel in Botswana since I’m looking the possibility of taking a similar trip with mpafa. I don’t own a suitable vehicle for this trip, so I have asked the company if it’s possible to rent an inexpensive vehicle in Maun. I was very pleased to read the tips and cautions that you included with your photos. Unfortunately, I could not pull up the pages for days 4 and 5 from your trip. Is there a way to get around the problem?

    Best regards,

  2. Thanks for your reply. I’m not sure what the problem was when I first used your site, but after reading your message, I tried again and all was fine.

  3. Dear Val,

I am a publisher working at Namibia Publishing House (Pty) Ltd.

Our aim is to provide quality affordable educational materials for underprivileged kids, mainly in rural areas of Namibia.
We strive to use the most up-to-date information and attractive relevant illustrations and photographs in all our publications.

At the moment, I am working on Geography Grade 8 Learner’s Book.
I came across your blog while searching for an image of frost on grass in Namibia to use in the book.

I would like to use the image named Frost on grass I found on the page above in a text frost and how it occurs in nature. It is a commercial print.

I kindly ask for your permission to use the image in question inside the text of this publication.
We oblige ourselves to attribute the photograph in the Acknowledgement section of the book according to your specifications (e.g. Val XXX (p 172)).
Please let me know if this is acceptable to you.

Thank you in advance for positive consideration of my request.
I look forward to hearing from you.

    Warm regards,
